Amelia Opalinska was born in a charming village in southeastern Poland in 1979. At the age of 12, she emigrated to the United States, starting a path that would shape her creative identity. Encouraged by her high school photography teacher, Amelia followed her passion for the arts and was accepted into the B.F.A. program at The College of Santa Fe in New Mexico. She graduated in 2002 with a focus on photography, laying the foundation for a career marked by experimentation and innovation.

 

Today, Amelia is a process-driven artist, immersing herself in mixed media on canvas, where the interaction between control and chance feeds her creative journey. Her paintings are vibrant, layered and dynamic, reflecting the intricate dance between intention and spontaneity. Embracing the unknown, Amelia discovers new paths and possibilities, creating unique works of art that embody the beauty of the process and exploration.

 

Throughout her career, Amelia's photographs have been exhibited in collective exhibitions in renowned spaces such as Site Santa Fe and The Gerald Peters Gallery. Her work has also been published in magazines such as Publio Magazine and PULSE, demonstrating her versatility and skill. As she made the transition to painting, her first works were exhibited in Bistro Cultural and La Escalera Galeria, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her artistic journey.

 

In recent years, Amelia has gained recognition for her individual exhibitions, including "Trapitos al Sol" at El Zapote Galeria in 2023, followed by "Ojos, Agujas y Luciernagas", a sample of 14 assemblage pieces, in May 2024. More recently, she presented "Magic Lurks in Color" in January 2025, further consolidating her reputation as a dynamic and innovative artist.

 

Amelia Opalinska currently lives and works in Mérida, Mexico, where she continues to explore the fields of painting, writing and photography. Her artistic practice continues to be a reflection of her unlimited curiosity and her passion for creative expression.
